12 Hours of Sundance

Well I just finished probably the last race of the season, 12 Hours of Sundance. It is called that because you ride from 7am-7pm, either solo, duo or in a 4 man team. I rode on a 4 person coed team. All of us were nice and sick with colds. I had a sore throat and ached everywhere a couple days before, Matt had been just getting over a bad sinus thing, and Riley was coughing like crazy, just awful sounding. Layna (Riley's wife) was going to ride but had a fever of 102 the night before, so she had to drop out. I was a little worried that we would all just have to drop out considering our health issues, but the morning of we were able to find a replacement for Layna. I was so thrilled because I had been excited for this race for a while. So we got up there at 6 am, it was really chilly in the mountains. They opted for me to ride first. I felt super stiff and not so good. I definitely could feel the effects of my sickness weakening me. I finished the lap in 58 minutes, not nearly as fast as I would have liked but for being sick I was ok with it. I had to sit in the car and warm my frozen toes up for the next few hours until my turn to ride came again. Surprisingly 3 hours went by super fast. Matt went next then Riley then Robbie. By that time Jed came up with the kids to cheer me on. I was feeling a ton better by then. I chose to ride my cannondale this lap because it is lighter and there was so much climbing in the course. I was cruising on the uphill, I felt really strong. I crested the top of the climbs and started heading down the speed trap and heard a nice pop and totally got a flat tired just like that. I was so bummed. I didn't bring any tools or tubes with me (lesson learned!!) so I did the only thing I could do - run down the stupid mountain. I ran as fast as I could and the crazy thing about it was I still came in right about an hour. So my intuition was right going up, if I hadn't got the flat I would have probably timed out at 50 min or less. My third lap I took my full suspension again, and felt pretty tired. I was feeling it for sure. So that one I didn't do that great still under an hour though. It was great fun! I want to do it again next year, and hopefully we will all be healthy. Oh and we did 12 laps. Pretty decent for how terrible we all felt! One of the funnest things about the race was watching all of the amazing riders. The fasted team (Co-ed DUO) was the Holleys. They are this awesome couple that race together. I am so inspired by how strong they are. There were also some pro girls riding duo. I think they did 14 laps. Crazy! And then craziest of all was this guy who rode solo 16 laps! I can't even imagine.
On the way home we met my parents at Happy Sumo and had sushi with them. The kids ate tons of edamame and rice. My parents are awesome. They treated us to Molten Lava Cake too. Soooo yummy, especially after a long day. This was at 9pm, poor kids were so tired. They all crashed in the car on the way home so we just put them to bed in their dirtiness. Oh well! Fun day. Today though I am coughing like crazy so Jed took the kids to church and left me to sleep. And he cleaned the house up! I love him so much. Thanks Jed!! I owe you big time for this weekend. You need to take a trip to Zion with Jason and your dad and Zac.

Zac and Drew playing in the dirt. The kids were so FILTHY at the end of the day.
Chloe warming me up as we waited for the awards at the end. I was so chilled.

They were having so much fun!
Ella peaking out, so cute.
Oh did I mention I wrecked on my third lap?? I totally flew over the handle bars going down the bobsled and landed on my right side. It didn't even hurt that bad, which I thought was weird but good!
Finishing my third ride.
These aren't in order! Ha ha

Our little camp we set up. Next year we are bringing a TENT!

Walking my bike with the flat. AARGH

You are an inspiration! I can't believe all that you get out and do with having 3 kids!! Maybe some day I can be like that! Looks like a lot of fun!

You are amazing, Heather! I wish I could have the energy you do and take better care of myself. I so admire moms who find the time to be athletic! Keep it up, girl!
