So that is my diagnosis for my hurting foot. Everything I have read about this annoying injury is not uplifting or hopeful. So many articles on the internet or comments from people who have suffered through this kind of injury say it can take months to heal if you get a really bad case of it. My physical therapist thinks I might have caught it early enough to prevent further problems, but we shall see. The interesting thing is that I am getting completely different advice across the board. My orthopedic doc says to stay off it, go to physical therapy, ice it, stretch it, etc. Then today I stopped into Runner's Corner and talked to Hawk and one of his employees who said to run through it, and that it won't heal by taking time off. Hawk said to run "barefoot" in socks on grass to strengthen the other muscles in my feet. He is a huge advocate of barefoot running from what I gathered, and he is someone who has had a good track record training runners. Both his kids won state I believe. He said to run 5 minutes on the grass and then increase it by one minute each time. His employee also said he had this injury and recommended this KT tape and taped his arch and also got marbles and would pick them up with his toes and put them in a cup to strengthen those other toe muscles etc. He ran through it and it went away. So I am in kind of a dilemma. I also read online various opinions. So this is what I have done, am doing...I went to PT 3 times already and they scraped the scar tissue, and did the E-stym and ultrasound and icing and taping, then I bought the KT tape and tried that today, I am stretching and icing and ibuprofen, biking and lifting at pump class tuesdays and thursdays, and I also bought these arch insoles that Hawk recommended, I wore them today and seem to like them. I am wearing my running shoes with the insoles all day, no flip flops or sloppy shoes, no sanuks :( because they don't have enough support. I also bought this weird thing called a Strassburg sock to wear at night, that keeps your arch from contracting while you sleep. So I think I am absolutely doing everything I can, I feel kind of fanatical about it, but I seriously love to run, so I just want to figure this thing out. Tonight for my workout I rode the spin bike for 30 minutes, alternating through high cadence for an entire song, and then standing and putting a high tension on for an entire song and switching that off for the 30 minutes. I have no idea what I am doing as far as spin bikes go except for what I have done in spin classes. Monday I did 40 sec super hard, 20 sec easy x 5 and then 3 min rest and repeated that 4 times, with a 15 minute warmup. It ends up being like a 45 min workout. I quite like that one. I was super sore the next day so I guess it is doing something. Then tonight after my 30 min bike I ran 10 minutes on the treadmill with my insoles, just a slow pace and I felt fine. I'm hoping the treadmill will be easier on my feet then the cold frozen streets. Then did 40 pullups on the fingerboard. So I felt great, I am super determined, especially with race season not toooo far away. Anyone have any good interval workouts or tips for spin bikes or for beating plantar fasciitis? I'll keep you posted on what I find out. Gotta go pick up my marbles with my toes...
