St. George Red Rock Rampage

This weekend we went to St. George for my first Intermountain Cup mountain bike race. St. George was beautiful, we left snowing Springville and headed into 65 degree sunny weather. My parents and my sister Ashley and her little boy came. We had so much fun. Friday morning we headed over to the course to practice it. My dad and Jed came with me, and we had such a great time. It felt so good to ride my bike and do something other than running! My bike performed nicely since Jed made some improvements on it. I love love love my new crank brothers pedals, I had one little accident with them though. I forgot I had them on and was talking to my sister in a dirt parking lot and slowed down too much and totally fell over sooooo hard. My knee hit a rock and hurt so bad, and I just laid there so embarrassed because there were all these hard core bikers around to witness it. Had to laugh it off even though I wanted to cry. But on the trail I just loved them, so much more power on the up hill and I felt so much more sturdy on the down. My mom watched the kids at the playground and then we went back to the condo to swim with them. They loved it!!! The course intimidated me a little, so we went back at night to try it out again so I could memorize where the tricky spots were. My sister came with Jed and I which was really fun. Then we went over to Red Rock bicycles to register and saw my uncle Kelly! I had heard he was coming down for a race and assumed it was the same one! So fun! And then when we started the race he was right in front of me in the line up. He ended up doing awesome and placed first in his division. Then we went to the Brick Oven for dinner. Then Jed and I stayed up late playing skipbo. The race went great, I was so excited and pretty relaxed. I didn't wimp out in the spots I was nervous about so I was proud about that. I passed a bunch of girls in the beginning and was even in first for a while, but then since I am lacking in my downhill skills I got passed. I need to work on that!!! Then I was in second place and I felt good but came to a steep downhill, and when I turned the corner some guy was stopped at the top, and I had to slow down and maneuver around him. It was sooo frustrating, then the girl behind me saw the opportunity and went to pass me on my left in a very tight squeeze (very gutsy of her!) she totally hit my handle bars. I almost went down but somehow held it together only to have her pass me by!!! I was so bummed, because I couldn't catch her after that. But overall I felt pretty good about the race, and came in 3rd for beginner women, so I even earned some points for Mad Dog. I am super excited for this season...now if only I can convince Jed to race and kick some trash!!! :) The rest of the trip was just super relaxing, my parents are awesome! It was so fun to have them come and support me!!! Thanks!!!! I was sad I couldn't stick around to watch the rest of the team race and help out but my kids were losing it! Next time!!!

We bought some sand toys for the kids, what a great investment
Jed made a video for me, it is kinda cheesy but I like it! :) The girl who took first actually just signed up for Mad Dog's race team too, kinda funny, because we were passing each other back and forth the whole time and didn't even know that, and then at the end we started talking and realized we are on the same team! She did great!

Cutie at the cute soda shop downtown, loved it there!!!
