Sherwood Hills
Funny race. Keith needed to borrow my bike last minute because his broke. I had not gotten a chance to put more Stans in since FEB. So he flatted. The guys got that tire ready with more stans, but we didn't even think about the back tire. Then I raced. I was in first place for the first lap and then I flatted. So I really regretted not putting more Stans in my tires. Lesson learned. I also realized how incompetent I am at changing a rear tire. As I was standing there not knowing what to do, I saw Mary Foss who had moved up to pro for this race. I had raced her at Deer Valley. She stopped to see if I needed anything and had also been having issues. She seemed so crushed, I really felt bad for her. She said she has exercise induced asthma and she couldn't breathe. I could tell in her face that she was very upset, trying not to cry. I could only imagine, especially when you want to do well in one of your first pro races. I had also heard that she had raced this course a lot, and had great times on it during weekly races. She is from Ogden. Anyways, we both encouraged each other and went on our way. I hope she gets to race again and feel better soon, she seems like the nicest person.
Weekly Race at Sundance
I got to this race last minute, luckily my friend Shanna babysat for me at the base. And luckily Keith was able to help me get my tire ready to go. It had a hole and wouldn't seal, so I had an Aspen put on it, and I have been liking that tire a lot. Jed was off riding Bobsled, which he said is in TERRIBLE condition. I felt pretty good this time, which was nice because the last few races I felt kinda tired from an antibiotic. I beat Kip Apostol which was fun, he and I are always duking it out. He didn't seem to pleased with me. ha ha. It is always a push racing him.
USCS @ Round Valley
This will go down as one of my favorite races of the year. There are a few that stand out in my mind, and this will be one of them. Everything clicked, I felt good, I fueled right (BRUGES Belgian waffles and PF changs??? Who knew? ha ha) no mechanicals, and I had practiced the course.
Lined up was Meg, Lucy, Roxanne, me and some one I don't know. Right off the start I got in the front, and Roxane and another girl were right on my tire when we hit the singletrack. I felt like I was pushing it, but not crazy, like I had more to give. The girl behind me was breathing hard, so I knew she wouldn't be able to hold it too long. Somewhere in that first lap I gained some distance, and that was that. I never saw them again. This is where things get tricky, because it was hard to gauge how fast I needed to go to hold my distance. I knew Roxanne could catch me on the down, since it isn't my strongpoint. I kept looking for her, but no one. Second lap I saw Keith coming behind, so that gave me the extra motivation to keep pushing. I hit the climb and stayed in front of him, and then said goodbye since I had one more lap. The last lap was just plain weird, NO ONE was out there. I think I probably slowed down a lot, because there was nothing to motivate me, except fear that some of the other girls would show up. Then it was the last stretch and I felt great. It was fun hearing them say I was in first place. And even more fun to get a huge check for 6o bucks. Too funny. I loved that course. Jenelle Kremer came up to me and said "Hey if you had lined up with the pro's you would have beat me by ten seconds!" She was really cute and gave me a hug. That was cool to hear, but I just told her who knows, I would probably have just blown up trying to keep up with them. I love how encouraging everyone is. Here are the results
Dutch Hollow
This race was pretty great. I prerode with Tiffany and Wendy, and I thought the trail was super fun. I rode the GoPro, which was a waste because Jed forgot to charge the battery. So I wore the dumb thing the whole time for no reason. And I talked to myself to narrate thinking it was recording the whole time too. :) I ended up in first, by 13 minutes! It was fun to line up with the pros. We did the same amount of laps. I tried hard to keep with KC the first part, but it was just too crazy hard. And then in the 1000 turns sections I couldn't see anyone anymore, so it was hard to know how far ahead they were. It was a really great race, can't complain one bit.
